Making the most out of warm and sunny June is
a snap with these five great ideas.
1.
1. Drive-In Theater: The nostalgia of the drive-in
theater is exciting. I remember all kinds of nights there,
sitting in my pajamas with my brothers and sisters and sometimes
friends. We’d sit in the back of the car or truck, or
sometimes lawn chairs in front of our parents. It’s worth
it, even if you have to drive a ways.
Make a great memory, pack the kids or friends and a cooler of
drinks and snacks. I like to grab a date, some blankets for
snuggling, pick up some Subway and a cooler for a great night.
If you don’t have a drive-in anywhere near you make your own
memories by taking the TV onto the deck or yard and grab a blanket
to spread out on the grass.

2.
Canoe or Kayak: A great afternoon canoeing or
kayaking can be good exercise and fun. Enjoy the day by taking
your own or renting one at the lake or river. Fall in and cool
off a bit too, or just dip your toes if you’re chicken. I take
along my
Olympus Stylus 790SW digital waterproof camera and don’t have
to worry about ruining my camera if it gets splashed or dropped.
3.
Camping: Going out into the woods with friends or
your family can be such fun and bonding. Even bad camping trips
end up as amazing memories. I remember one camping trip where it
rained all night, it was freezing and my sister and I woke up on a
half deflated air mattress in a puddle of water. It was miserable
then, but very funny now. As my friend Maria likes to say, it’s
two days of packing everything in your house just to go, come
back, and clean for another two days. You don’t have to
rough it, you can rent a cabin or even pop that tent in your back
yard. Just have fun!
4.
Star Gazing: Those warm nights can be spent on a
blanket or in a chair in the back yard looking at the
constellations. Relax and look up. You can search for shooting
stars or get some books from the library or store to learn about
those beautiful, twinkling stars.
5.
Make Home Made Popsicles: Kids and and adults alike
love these cool tasty treats on a hot day. Have some fun and make
homemade popsicles, they are simple and frugal. There are so many
simple ways to do this, but how my family did it growing up was to
simply use Kool-Aid. We’d mix up a packet of Kool-Aid and then
pour it into either
Popsicle molds, small paper cups or plain old ice cube trays
with toothpicks of Popsicle sticks cut in half. Then stick them
in the freezer and wait for them to harden. You can substitute
the Kool-Aid with any fruit juice.
