I found this very cool goal setting idea while surfing the web
yesterday. I came
across the webpage
GetRichSlowly (http://www.getrichslowly.org/blog/2007/03/24/101-things-in-1001-days/)
and found this great article.
Basically you set 101 simple, realistic goals to improve
your life and it gives you about 2.7 years to finish them.
A site called Triplux
offered the
following guidelines that I’ve found on several other sites as
well:
The Mission:
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.
The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a
result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must
also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of
work on my part).
Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past — frequently simple
goals such as New Year’s resolutions. The key to beating
procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days
(about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because
it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is
better for organizing and timing some tasks such as overseas trips
or outdoor activities.
Goal setting tips
-
Be decisive. Know exactly what you want, why you want it, and
how you plan to achieve it.
-
Stay Focused. Any goal requires sustained focus from beginning
to end. Constantly evaluate your progress.
-
Welcome Failure. Frequently, very little is learned from a
venture that did not experience failure in some form. Failure
presents the opportunity to learn and makes the success more
worthy.
-
Write down your goals. It clarifies your thinking and
reinforces your commitment.
-
Keep your goals in sight. Review them frequently, and ensure
that they are always at the forefront of your thinking.
I encourage you to try this with me and let
me know how your list is coming along.
Make your list, print it out and place it somewhere you
will see it every day.
Pick one thing at a time on your list and attack it.
When you get discouraged
or things look like pipe dreams (cruise to Bahamas, ride on a
private jet, act in a movie,) just think about the end of the 2.7
years and how happy you will be then if you put in some hard work
now. We all think,
“If only I had applied myself and did more when I was a kid,” but
lets face it we all watched too much TV, hung out with our friends
and didn’t do as much as we could have.
So, set aside this short period of time and knock out some
lifelong dreams and goals.
